Between deep roots and contemporary vision
KanSilva was born from a simple idea: to reconcile the elegance of glamping with the robustness of equipment designed to face the realities of the Canadian forest .
But behind this modern concept lies a much older story, rooted in the collective memory of the territory we now call Canada .
The origins of “Kan”
The name Kan has its roots in a founding moment in North American history. When the first French settlers arrived in New France , they would have heard the Iroquoian people use the word "Kanata" to refer to their village . Through a historical misunderstanding, this word would be adopted to name the entire territory: Canada .
At KanSilva , this word resonates deeply. Our luxury tents, while innovative and contemporary, are inspired by the semi-permanent sedentary lifestyle of the First Nations. Like Iroquoian longhouses , they offer a stable and comfortable anchor in nature, while remaining mobile and adaptable .
And as a nice nod to the language, "Kan" also evokes "camp" - a temporary but warm place of installation, designed for rest, contemplation, and reconnection with the environment.
And the forest, always...
Silva , on the other hand, comes from Latin , the language from which French was originally spoken by the first European settlers , mainly French . It means "forest" .
This choice is not insignificant. It reflects both our linguistic heritage and our roots in the vast wooded expanses that define Canada's identity.
It is also a cultural tribute : Cicero , the great thinker of Antiquity, regularly retreated into nature to meditate, write, and find peace . In his letters, he evoked the serenity of calm , the benevolent presence of trees , and silence as a refuge for the mind - (like a living poetry offered by the trees and the wind, where thought finally breathes freely) .
It is exactly this spirit of peaceful retreat , of harmony between man and nature, that we wish to revive through each KanSilva tent.
A deeply rooted and resolutely sustainable design
KanSilva tents are designed to accommodate long-term installations in the great outdoors , while respecting the spirit of free camping. Thanks to their semi-permanent structure , they allow campers to anchor themselves in a place for longer , to slow down, to reconnect.
Each tent is made with robust, insulating and breathable materials , chosen for their resistance to extreme climates and their longevity . We favor durable technical fabrics, solid structures, and finishes designed to last.
And because nature is our source of inspiration, it is also our responsibility.
Our approach is part of an ecological logic : carefully selected materials, durability over time, and sustainable production.
Designed and tested for Canada , our tents are built to survive harsh winters, humid forests and northern winds.
If they can withstand the Canadian climate, they will withstand everywhere else.
KanSilva is more than a name.
It is a tribute to the people and the forests ,
a philosophy of life in harmony with the earth ,
a commitment to sustainability, territory and cultural heritage .
And above all, it’s an invitation to camp differently.
